The project involved the conversion of the former Woolworths in Southsea to provide a new library facility and customer services centre for Portsmouth City Council. The store had remained boarded up and empty for some time before the City Council decided to acquire it to improve the vitality of this locality.
Bespoke, brightly coloured furniture is used to define the route which meanders through the collection gradually revealing the range of library facilities to great effect. This device not only defines a clear route though the space but also helps to create a vibrant and stimulating interior.
